The Three-Point Mental Map That Replaces Your Notes

A simple thinking framework that lets you speak for twenty minutes without a single slide or cue card.

Why notes make you smaller

Notes split your attention between the page and the people. The audience reads that split instantly — eyes down, voice flat, energy dropping. Removing notes is not bravado; it is the fastest way to look present.

Building the map

Pick one destination — the belief you want to leave behind. Then choose three routes to it: a fact, a story and a consequence. That is the entire map.

Fact gives credibility. Story gives memory. Consequence gives urgency. Any topic, from a product review to a wedding speech, fits this shape.

Holding twenty minutes in your head

Attach each of the three points to a physical anchor — a spot on the floor, a gesture, an object on the table. Space is a far better memory system than sequence.

When you move to point two, move your body. Your audience follows the transition and you never lose your place.

Practise it small

Use the map on a two-minute answer before you use it on a keynote. Confidence compounds from repetition on low stakes, not from heroics on high stakes.
